Scientists achieve fastest internet speed, 1000 HD movies to be downloaded in seconds

(Sandhya Jha, Intern Journalist): Melbourne: Researchers have been able to achieve the fastest internet speeds ever with the help of a single optical chip. This speed is so fast that 1000 HD movies can be downloaded in less than a second. This is more than a thousand times the Internet speed you normally get. According to the study published in the science journal Nature Communications, Bill Cockoran of Australia’s Monash University and his colleagues recorded a speed of 44.2 terabytes per second with the help of a light source.

Speed achieved like this

This discovery can help to increase telecommunications capacity rapidly. The scientists said that this speed was achieved by applying a new device to the existing fiber optic technology. Researcher Arnon Mitchell said that it can be used in ultra-high-speed communication between data centers at an early stage.

First field trial was successful

Researchers carried out the experiment between 76.6 km of optical fiber between RMIT University’s Melbourne City Campus and Monash University’s Clayton Campus. This device works by mixing 80 lasers together. This was its first field trial, which was successful.

New ray of hope

Scientists said that due to the Corona epidemic, the way people are working at home, the demand for the internet has increased. In the current situation, it has also come to the fore that we need to increase the capacity of our internet connection. The results show that optical fiber will remain an important link to the Internet now and in the future as well. In the future, internet usage will increase in various fields like driving and medical and education. In such a situation, internet speed will decide a lot. Experimentation done through a single optical chip is a new ray of hope in this direction.

Average internet speed is 25-50 Mbps in India

Earlier in 2019, a website claimed to run the internet at a speed of 11 petabytes per second. The average internet speed in India is 25–50 Mbps and in Singapore, the Internet runs at a maximum speed of 193 SBPS. Talking about the fastest internet providers, Google Fiber speed is 1000 Mbps, while Verizon’s 940 Mbps, RCN’s 1,000 Mbps, and Xfinity’s internet speed are 2000 Mbps.
