Bhubaneswar: National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were deployed in Odisha and West Bengal on Sunday in view of the imminent threat of cyclone ‘Amfan’. Meanwhile, Odisha said that it is ready to evacuate 11 lakh people badly affected by this cyclone to safe places.
NDRF Director General SN Pradhan said in New Delhi that according to a report of the Indian Meteorological Department on Sunday morning, cyclone ‘Amfan’ is turning into a severe cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal. Probably in the next 24 hours it can turn into a very severe cyclonic storm.
He said, “Its path is mainly towards West Bengal, Sagar Islands and maybe Bangladesh … but we have to keep a close watch on it.” The NDRF has deployed its team in time. They have been deployed or heading towards the destination. “

Jena said that 809 cyclone shelter centers have been set up in 12 coastal districts, out of which 242 are currently being used as medical camps for those who have returned from various states amid lockdowns.
Jena said, “We have 567 cyclone and flood relief shelters available to take people to safer places.” Apart from this, 7,092 buildings have also been arranged if needed. Saving people’s lives is our priority.”

A team of NDRF consists of about 45 personnel. Odisha has also prepared a roadmap to restore power and water supply, clean the roads, start relief and rescue operations immediately. According to the Union Home Ministry, the cyclone may knock in West Bengal on Wednesday.
The National Crisis Management Committee met under Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba on Saturday to review preparations to reduce the loss of life and property of the people from the cyclone in the face of the Korana virus epidemic crisis.
