(Kajal Singh Intern Journalist): UK tennis player Andy Murray won the ‘Virtual Madrid Open’ title on Thursday. He received a walkover in the semi-finals as his opponent Diego Schwartzman ‘logged out’ of Argentina due to a network trouble. Two-time Madrid Open champion Murray defeated Belgium’s David Goffin in the final of this virtual tennis tournament.

“Schwartzman’s connection was cut off due to technical problems that led him to fall behind in the semi-final match. Andy Murray advanced to this online pro final after both players agreed.” Tweeted by organizers.
In the women’s final, Netherlands’ Kiki Bertons defeated France’s Fiona Farrow.
Bertons won the WTA Madrid Open title last season.
The win earned Murray and Bertons $ 150,000 ($ 164,000) prize money, much of which would go to fellow players ranked lower in the tennis rankings as they were badly affected by the shutdown of tennis competitions due to the Corona virus epidemic.
The tennis season is not expected to begin until July 13 due to the covid-19.
